PTMC
Post Terran Mineral Corporation

The PTMC was the first industry to expand beyond Earth's orit. Beginning as a mineing conglomerate in the United States, the Terran Mineral Corporation quickly spread to global operations. As resources dwindled on and below the planets surface, many industries turned toward the endless possibilities of the resources on other planets. The only industry of the great mineing conglomerates to have sufficient funds for space expansion was the TMC. Most of the smaller conglomerates chose to join the TMC rather than be shut down by it's superior political power.
In 2025 the TMC launched launched to Orbital Command Station, located in a stable orbit around Earth. This station was not much more than a collection of International Space Stations (which became popular in the early Twenty-First century). As the strength of the PTMC grew, the Command Station became a veritable city. This station was one of the first to utilize design patterns later made popular by the Arcadia Installations.
The first mineing installation outside Earth was the Lunar Facility (naturally). With the completion of this facility the Terran Mineral Corporation became the Post-Terran Mineral Corporation.
This facility had high production rates, but did not produce all of the minerals and raw materials needed to
support production on Earth.
Just two years after opening the Lunar Facility, the PTMC built a new facility on Mercury. A new installation was also built in the shadow of Mercury, where the mine workers could retreat to when the sun rose over the mineing facility. The harshness of Mercury made the PTMC rethink mineing strategis. Designs were drawn for Automated Robotics that would work in the mines while human workers watched from surface bound installations.
After the Mercury Facility reached full production potential, the PTMC added another goal to it's plans: Extra-Terra Colonization.
The Mission Statements of the PTMC's ETC are as follows:

1. Robotic recon teams deployed for surface scans.
2. Area declared safe > Search for location suitable for colonized mining facility.
3. First manned shuttles set down at designated location > Set up outpost to oversee Robotic construction of Mineing Facility.
4. After completion of Facility, colonist shuttled in.
5. Colonist ocuppy surface structures while Robotics work the mines. > Materials mined by Robotics A) Build additional structures to surface installations. B) Build needed colonization structures: Terraformers, Solar Power Arrays, etc. C) Send additional materials to Earth to prepare for next colonization mission.

These colonization procedures took affect in 2031 and remained the standard for colonizing planets for nearly 50 years.
Most Terrans do not have a favorable opinion of the PTMC. They say it is a money hungy corporate monster, that it is a controlling force aimed at government power.
At one point during the colonization years, these statments may have been true. The power of the PTMC for Solar Expansion elevated it's political power above many government officials. Many of these officials answered souly to the PTMC.
Wheither this makes the PTMC a monster is irrelevant, without the PTMC Terrans would not have expanded outside Earth for another century or more.
By the time of SubSpace expansion the PTMC had lost most of it's power. Once colonies had taken hold on the seven outer planets, other conglomerates began taking over. Without the need for the PTMC's ETC programs, the age of Multiplanetary Conglomerates ended.
The potential of mineing in other systems was appealing to the PTMC but after 200 years of political and financial downfall they had neither the power nor the funding to capitalize on SubSpace expansion.

*****

It should be noted that all current Science Division testing is being funded by the PTMC.
The PTMC seems fully prepared to expand outside Sol if given the chance.
