Victory II had a long hard fight a week ago. There were so many Shivans. The 18th Battle Fleet joined with the Shivans before arriving in "Hellhole." That was four damn fleets we had to take down.
All of our ships are out patrolling the system, waiting for something to happen. We were able to take a few Shivan caps intact. R&D are studying them from a safe distance and a few wings of fighters are on sentry duty.
So much for the black hole theory. After several patrols we havent found anything, just a star a little smaller than the sun. There are 11 planets in the system, all ranked and filed now. Every one of them is too far from the sun to be too much above absolute, all gas giants.
R&D and the SD want to research them but Peterson has reminded them that this is still a military operation.
I'm so damned bored... I wish something would happen. But then I remember how creepy it is out here and I just want to leave.
I got my wish. Weird things have been going on out here.
We lost contact with command last night. Our comms have been flooded with unintelligable transmissions. The GTD Pakistan and the GTC Wolf's Heart decided they were making a run for it. We don't know what happened to them...
The Science vessel that cam through with us, "Einstein II", has been monitoring some strange subspace signals. The crew is gettting pretty scared.
I talked to Peterson, he says he fears another Shivan attack fleet from an undiscovered jump node somewhere near by.
But I could tell he didnt think that. He doesnt know what to think. Peterson is as scared as I am.
The sensor crew tracked some unknown type of ship last night. Not Terran, not Vasudan, hell, not even Shivan.
It moved out from under the sensor band of the 4th planet and headed out towards the far side of the star from us. It accelerated at unthinkable speeds and then it was gone. No subspace signature... nothing.
The crew just wants to leave but Peterson is hesitant. He thinks that if we leave we might suffer the same unknown fate as the dissappearing ships.
One of the pilots said that maybe we already have dissappeared. We have lost contact with the other ships. Peterson dissmissed it in a feeble attempt at boosting moral.
He handpicked 12 of us to fly recon in the new Eclipse fighter/bombers. He just wants a quick sweep of the system and any information we can gather. I got assigned to Alpha wing, we are taking the area within 3 AU's of the star.
We aren't taking any chances, the Eclipse's have been stripped of all that unecessary science bullshit and have been loaded down with all the weapons it can handle.
Still, as I suit up... I wonder if my flight suit is the one I'll be buried in... if I get the formality of a funeral...
